Software appplication

Assignment 1:For this assignment, we need to form a group of 7 people. We need to submit a report of our research on different types of software programs available in the construction market and their limitations in usage.
The report is divided into two parts. In Part 1, we will focus on the functions and limitation of different BIM QS computer software in the market. In Part 2, we will compare the benefits and constraints of BIM, CAD Measurement and Manual Measurement.
We divide the task among the group members. I will be doing Part 2 Manual Measurement. After everyone has done their part, we compile it together.

Reflection:
Through this assignment, I learn that there are many software in this market that are helping QS in doing measurement and preparing BQ. Each of the software has different functions and their limitations. I should learn these software because it will definitely help me in my future.

Furthermore, I want to say thank you to my entire group member. We are able to carry out a good teamwork and finish the assignment on time. Everyone did their job very well. Lastly, I need to say thank you to our lecturer for helping us and guide us on this assignment.

Assignment 2:
This is an individual assignment. We need to do Bill of Quantities with rates using Buildsoft software. There are two things that we need to submit. The first thing is Bill of Quantities with description, quantities and units while the second thing is the price build-up.

We need to use the BQ that we have done for our Measurement 4 assignment in this assignment. First, we need to insert the calculation for each element. Next, we need to calculate the unit rates of the elements like what we have learned in our Estimating subject. We need to find the rates of the material and the labour cost. Although it is an individual assignment, we can work with our Measurement 4 assignment group member. 

Reflection 

Through this assignment, I learn how to do Bill of Quantities with rates using Buildsoft software. I am able to do the Bill of Quantities with rates by myself. I realize that this Buildsoft software is really convenient for QS. I should master this software because I think that this software will definitely help me in my future.
Lastly, I want to say thank you to my classmates for helping me in this assignment. Without them, I am not able to complete this assignment.

Assignment 1:Presentation

For this assignment, we have to present the topic given.

Assignment 2: Tender Submission

For this assignment, we need to form a group of 9 – 10 people. This assignment is divided into two parts. Part 1 is tender submission and Part 2 is evaluation session.

In Part 1, we need to submit a tender document. First, we need to obtain quotations as many as possible to get the lowest quotations. Next, we need to estimate the unit rates using the quotations received. We should apply what we have learned during the lecture class to calculate the unit rates. There are total 10 elements that we need to calculate. We divide the task among the group members.As for Preliminaries, we need to list out the elements that we need and insert the rates. In Prime Cost Sum, we just need to insert the profit and overhead. After we total up, we can get our total tender amount.During tender openings, the lecturer will announce the group that is shortlisted. Normally is the first 3 groups with the lowest tender amount is shortlisted.
My group is shortlisted, so we will attend an evaluation session in the form of tender interview. 



Through this assignment, I learn that how a consultant QS estimate the unit rates and how a contractor price the tender document. We spend a lot of time to obtain the lowest quotation because we do not know the current market price. Besides that, when we are calculating the unit rates, we need to know how many labour we should include. The number of labour required is based on the size of the project and the type of project. This project is only a single storey show house, so we do not need so many labour. Moreover, we face difficulties when doing Preliminaries because we do not know which item we need and what is the rates for that item.This assignment is a very interesting assignment. I want to say thank you to our group members. Although there are 11 people in the group, we are able to carry out a good teamwork. We communicate well and everyone did their job. Lastly, I want to say thank you to our lecturer for helping us and guide us on this assignment.

Structure

We have an individual assignment. For this assignment, we are required to solve the question using graphical method of solution.

This is an in-class assignment. The question is given out in class and we have to submit it at the end of the class. We need to draw out our answer in a graph paper and submit it. We can discuss with our classmates, but we cannot ask the lecturer questions.

Although we can discuss among ourselves, but we still get stuck. We compare our answer with other classmates, but everyone has a different answer. We not sure whether the answer is correct or not.

Reflection:
Through this assignment, I have a better understanding of the formula and how to calculate all the forces. This assignment is quite tough for me because it is not only about calculation. We need to know all the forces and how to calculate it. I am struggling while doing this assignment because I am not good in physics.
Lastly, I want to say thank you to my classmates for helping me in this assignment. Without them, I am not able to complete this assignment.

Professional Practice1

For this assignment, we need to form a group of 5 people. We need to propose the best procurement, tendering and contract arrangement based on the situation given in a report format.We need to decide which procurement, tendering and contract arrangement that we want to propose. After our discussion, our group decides to use Management Contracting procurement method, two stage selective tendering method and PAM 2006 Contract.We divide the task among the group members. After everyone has done their part, we compile it together. We need to submit our assignment and check our report properly to avoid plagiarism.\


Besides that, we also have presentation. Every group only has 10 minutes to present.

Reflection

Through this assignment, I have a better understanding on each procurement, tendering and contract arrangement. I learn how to analyze which method is the most suitable for that particular situation. We should look at the client’s requirement before we make any advice to the client. Different situation should use a different method.The challenging part of this assignment is the contract arrangement. We are using Management Contracting procurement method, but PAM 2006 Contract does not cover it. It does not have Management Contractor inside PAM 2006 Contract. After our discussion, we decide to modify PAM 2006 Contract.Furthermore, I want to say thank you to my entire group member. We are able to carry out a good teamwork and finish the assignment on time. Everyone did their job very well. Lastly, I need to say thank you to our lecturer for helping us and guide us on this assignment.

Measurement4

Assignment : Tender Documentation

For this assignment, we need to form a group of 7 people. We need to prepare the tender documents for the calling of tender. There are total 4 documents that we need to produce.
For this assignment, we need to find the drawings ourselves. We need to find a Double Storey house with complete drawings. 
After we confirm the drawings, we start to do the measurements. We need to measure all the elements of the house. We divide the task among our group members. I will be doing slab and external work within lot boundary. It took us almost one and a half month to complete all the measurements.
Next, we start to prepare our tender documents. There are a lot of forms that we need to include in the tender document. We can get it either from consultant firm or previous projects. Besides that, our final printed BQ must be done using Buildsoft software.
There are total 4 documents that we need to submit. The first document is “PROJECT CORRESPONDENCES & INTERNAL MEMOS”. This document includes correspondences with client and other consultants, query lists, programme of work, internal memos to group members and allocation of duties.The second document is “MEASUREMENT DETAILS”. This document includes draft BQ, all of the taking-off list and dimension paper.The third document is “TENDER DOCUMENTS”. This document comprising all the printed parts of the documents.The fourth document is “TENDER DRAWINGS”. This document includes all the drawing that fold into A4 size.

We also have a presentation. We need to present our tender document to our client. We should include all the information that the client wants to know from the tender document such as the instructions and conditions of tendering, form of contract and etc.


After our presentation, the lecturer gives us some comment. We should list out the element in the BQ because the client wants to know which element is included in the BQ. Besides that, the lecturer also asks us about the Daywork Rates, Earnest Money and Performance Bond.

Reflection 
Through this assignment, I learn how to prepare a tender document. The tender documents contain a lot of forms such as declaration of non-collusion, form of tender, form of bank guarantee for earnest money and etc. Besides that, unlike previous assignment, we only need to measure particular elements, this time we need to measure the whole building. I learn that time management is really important in this assignment. Our group is able to finish the assignment on time because we start our assignment earlier.Furthermore, I want to say thank you to my entire group member. We are able to carry out a good teamwork and finish the assignment on time. I think our group have done a really good job because all of us have put a lot of effort into this assignment. Lastly, I need to say thank you to our lecturer for helping us and guide us on this assignment.
